Ludovico Einaudi @ The Bridgewater Hall ~ 14 March 2016

This was my first time at a classical concert. Ludovico Einaudi is a brilliant pianist whose music is very popular. His songs are used in so many adverts and shows. My first encounter with Ludovico’s music was when I heard ‘I Giorni‘ on Radio 1 – which was very odd. It really did capture me, the song is so beautiful and makes me feel very optimistic.

I went alone to this show after a day in the labs. I remember visiting The Bridgewater Hall just once before on a trip in primary school. I’d forgotten how pretty the building was. When I got into the main hall, I was very impressed with my seat. In fact, it seemed like most seats offered a fantastic view of the stage.

I also happened to be sitting next to a middle aged guy who was also on his own and he started a pleasant conversation with me. First time experience! as I haven’t really spoken to anyone before at the concerts I attended alone. He asked me if I’d seen Ludovico before and told me that he had seen him before in New York!

The show was split into two parts where he played pieces from his new album, Elements. This was followed by a short break, after which he resumed by playing songs from his previous albums. Ludovico was joined by a band – I particularly enjoyed the percussionist. He played several instruments I don’t even think I have seen before – including one that was played underwater.

The sound was great and the piano was just beautiful! There were sometimes special effects or lights that were coordinated with certain pieces which made the show stunning to watch. I felt the coordination between the band and Ludovico was so amazing. After each song, Ludovico would take a bow, prompting a round of applause from the audience.

Overall, it was wonderful to see the songs I really love, performed live. So much talent from Ludovico and his band. I would love to see more classical shows in the future. After the show I browsed to stall and decided to buy three albums, which I am very much enjoying.
