February playlist / Singles ~ 2017

I feel like I have discovered so much good music this month and also revisited some old favourites. I went to two concerts this month, ‘Taking Back Sunday‘ and ‘Pinegrove‘. I enjoyed them both so much, they’ve definitely made me excited for the concerts to come.

The Amazons

The Amazons were supporting Jimmy Eat World when I saw them back in November. I regret not paying more attention to this band. They’re getting big! I recently listened to them on Spotify and became addicted to two of their singles.

In My Mind – That guitar at the beginning is just so cool, it also makes you feel cool. And when they repeat, “Baby in my mind” – it’s so catchy. Also, I’ve gone on about it before but Matt’s hair is so nice!

Ultraviolet – This song has a really uplifting sound, and I love the way Matt sings the chorus.

Frank Iero and the Patience

World Destroyer – Frank opened up for ‘Taking Back Sunday‘ with this brilliant song. I love how loud it is, I love the sound of drums and Frank’s aggressive? vocals and how they vary throughout the song.

Discovered Pinegrove when Andrew from Basement covered their song, ‘Problems‘. Evan’s voice is really emotional and beautiful. Their music just reminds me of summer. Delightful!

Aphasia – such a pretty song!

Review: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love Ron so much. He’s so funny and sarcastic. Fred and George as well, making fun of Percy. “Simply splendid to see you, old boy.” “absolutely spiffing”.

I thought Professor Lupin was a brilliant addition to the book, ever since he helped out on the train. Loved the scene where he was teaching about the Boggarts and Neville finally succeeded 🙂

I loved the relationship between Harry and Professor Lupin. How Lupin acted as a guide and was willing to help Harry out, showing him how to overcome the things he struggles with.

Malfoy is as nasty and evil as ever 😦 He was so mean towards Hagrid and caused so much trouble. It was funny when Hermione did something so out of character haha.

I thought that the quidditch in this book was brilliant, very tense. the victory at the final was wonderful and happy time.

The Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs chapter wow!! So many things were explained. I hated Wormtail, felt sorry for Sirius and wanted justice!!! Snape man!! He was so meddling. Once again Dumbledore believed Harry and Hermione and gave them hints. The chapter with the time turner was nail biting stuff.

Finally Ron calling the telephone a fellytone hahahaha.

Review: Take A Look At Me Now – Miranda Dickinson

Take A Look At Me Now
Take A Look At Me Now by Miranda Dickinson

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love chick lit so much haha! It just makes me really happy. Huge fan of Miranda Dickinson’s books. The cover of this book gave the impression that it was set in winter (which it wasn’t really) haha, so I waited until the winter season to read it. This was yet another heart-warming read from Miranda. Really loved the setting of San Francisco.

Jimmy Eat World @ Manchester Academy ~ 10 November 2016

This was part of my crazy week of three concerts in a row. Bring Me the Horizon on the 8th Nov, Tom Odell on the 9th Nov and Jimmy Eat World on the 10th Nov. I wasn’t too familiar with Jimmy Eat World before they announced their ‘Integrity Blues UK tour‘. I really enjoyed their album, ‘Futures‘ and the songs ‘Big Casino‘ and ‘The Middle‘. Then I remember them dropping singles like ‘Sure and Certain‘, ‘Get Right‘ and ‘You With Me‘. I really enjoyed all those songs as well and I thought, Jimmy Eat World don’t tour the UK that often, so I should really get myself a ticket. And that was one of the best decisions! 😀

Basement sign to Fueled By Ramen 3rd Feb 17

So I woke up to a new post by Basement on Facebook – a long message about them signing a new record deal with the massive label, Fueled by Ramen.

At first I was a bit shocked! I didn’t think they’d be a band that matched the sound of Fueled By Ramen artists. But I am really happy for them!!

Just feeling a little bit sad that they’re not going to be on Run For Cover Records anymore. When I first got into the band and then discovered their label, I also discovered a treasure trove of bands also on that label. I thought wow, Run for Cover Records has got to be my favourite label! (How many times can I say label? XD)

I’ve become such a fan of Citizen and Turnover, bit of Tigers Jaw also. I discovered Pinegrove through a cover that Andrew did of ‘Problems‘. I love the sound of the bands from Run for Cover. And now it seems like Basement is leaving that small family 😦

Those few episodes of ‘Tuesdays with Tay‘ where the Basement boys joined in were definitely one of my highlights! Those videos were hilarious (I’ll link one below)! Another annoying thing is that to my current knowledge, I don’t think Fueled By Ramen has a UK Store (which RFC did) so shipping is going to be a nightmare! That didn’t stop me from ordering the new vinyl (hopefully signed) though.

But as long as they’re happy and they keep putting out awesome music! Congratulations to them. I’m so excited to see them on tour when they come to Manchester in March. I’ll also be seeing Pinegrove this Feb at the same venue.
